The next step is milling, which involves grinding layers of asphalt pavement away using specialized milling machines. These cut away your pavements at precise depths, removing the cracked and damaged asphalt and leaving the base layers intact.
The milling process also prepares the asphalt surface, creating a textured surface that helps keep your new asphalt in place after the recycled materials are mixed and ready to pour.
Once the milling process is complete and we’ve collected the recycled materials, the next step is to crush the pieces to a uniform size. This allows the recycled asphalt to properly mix with the right additives and rejuvenators.
Depending on varying factors, we may take the asphalt we collect to asphalt plants, where it is processed into recycled hot mix asphalt, or we may use specialized equipment to replace the removed pavement with recycled asphalt mixed with virgin materials (meaning non-recycled).
